The Nokia brand has been doing rather well under HMD Global. We applaud HMD Global’s commitment to the Android One program and timely security updates. The Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco are among the latest mid-range and high-end devices from HMD Global announced at Mobile World Congress 2018, and while the company’s full-throttled support of the Android One program took center stage, there was another exciting announcement for Nokia fans: the return of the Lumia Pro Camera mode in the Nokia Camera app.
The company announced that it would be bringing back the iconic Pro Camera mode that was one of the best features of the camera app from the Lumia phones. This mode is available in the Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco out of the box, but it was unclear whether or not the feature would be implemented in the camera app for older Nokia-branded devices. HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, said that the Nokia Camera’s Pro Camera mode would roll out to all devices with ZEISS optics, so some have speculated that this would include previous-generation Nokia devices. Now, we have some direct confirmation that HMD Global might very well release this feature for other Nokia phones the APK of the latest camera app from a leaked Nokia 7 OTA update has been posted online.
The leaked OTA was pulled by XDA Senior Member, a prolific leaker of firmware for Nokia devices and a finder of many prototype devices. The OTA is an unreleased build for the Chinese variant of the Nokia 7, and it includes version 8.0260.50 of the camera app with the Pro Camera mode. He has confirmed that it works on his device and has shared the APK file so that the wider community can enjoy the app.
Theoretically, it should work on any Nokia-branded device with Zeiss optics as HMD Global claimed it would. It has only been tested on the 7 so far, but it’ll likely work on the Nokia 8 as well. Download the Nokia Camera APK file below with the Pro Camera mode feature and let us know if it works on your Nokia device!

Nokia was once known for making some of the best camera-phones ever since we shifted to colour screens. Be it the N-series phones or the Lumia 1020, we have admired what Nokia did to the cameras on phones. A recent leak on Baidu, a Chinese social network, points towards Nokia’s next attempt to regain its legacy in the field of mobile optics.
According to the leak, Nokia is working on a penta-lens concept phone that has five lenses positioned in circular pattern with LED flash. The smartphone is said to be called the Nokia 10, and will be aimed at shutterbugs.
The concept definitely looks like Nokia’s attempt to revolutionise smartphone cameras once again. It would be interesting to see how the company plans to employ such hefty camera setup and how it is going to implement it by keeping the design handy.
According to Baidu, the Penta-lens camera rumor may hint at a revolver-like rotating Zoom camera tech from Zeiss.
Other rumoured specifications for the Nokia 10 point towards a Snapdragon 845, a glass back and 18:9 display. Baidu also reports that the phone is currently under development stage and may not be available before second half of 2018.
With the new week, also come new rumors about HMD’s upcoming flagship, the Nokia 9. Last week HMD Global China had a birthday party, where staff shared interesting information about HMD’s plans for 2018. On 19th January, HMD Global is expected to announce new Nokia devices in China. MyDrivers.com reports that the devices in question are Nokia 9 and a Nokia 8 successor codenamed B2.
Both devices should come with Snapdragon 835, no 3.5mm jack and IP67 Protection. Nokia 9 will have a regular 5.5-inch (16:9) 2K display, while the Nokia 8 (2018) is rumored to come with a 18:9 display. Nokia 9 with 6GB RAM and 64GB of memory will allegedly be priced at €472, while the 128GB variant will come at €535.
This, honestly, doesn’t make much sense. If HMD is planing to release similar devices, with the difference just being the screen size/ratio, then both devices should carry the same name, with the larger one having the XL suffix. Calling the 18:9 device Nokia 8 (less than a half of a year after releasing Nokia 8) and calling the device with the “regular” screen Nokia 9, just confuses everyone out there. The source doesn’t mention the price of Nokia 8 (2018), but it seems logical that this device costs less than Nokia 9. The global debut of Nokia 9 and Nokia 8 (2018) will be, according to rumors, MWC2018 in February in Barcelona.
I personally doubt that HMD will opt for such a confusion in naming scheme, and literally introducing 3 flagship devices that are essentially the same. A bezel-less device with similar specifications to Nokia 8 is coming, but, considering how much different rumors we saw by now, no one knows what will it look like in the end. Also, it seems that HMD won’t introduce any new phones this year, which is a shame considering the high spending Christmas season. At least Nokia 7 globally, HMD.
Second series of Nokia Android smartphones might launch sooner than expected.
Nokia made its grand comeback this year by launching four smartphones – the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, Nokia 8 smartphones, and the classic 3310 feature phone. Now, rumors mills are already buzzing with leaks suggesting that HMD Global might launch the second series of its Android smartphones as early as the beginning of 2018. Three new Android smartphones are expected to launch at MWC 2018 in Barcelona.
The latest information comes from a BPO employee (via gadgetpilipinas.net), who works for the company that carries out logistics for HMD Global. He claims that the Nokia 2, 7 and 9 are coming early next year. While rumors about Nokia 2 and Nokia 9 have been around for a while now, Nokia 7 is the latest to join the list. The Nokia 2 is said to retain the same design as that of Nokia 3.
In terms of specifications, the Nokia 2 is expected to feature a 5-inch HD display. It is likely to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 SoC clocked at 1.27GHz and paired with either 1GB or 2GB of RAM. The smartphone is rumored to pack a massive 4,000mAh battery, and sport an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
Nokia 9 is yet another smartphone that has been spotted on numerous occasions. Thanks to the leaks, we know that the Nokia 9 might come with dual-camera setup and 3D bezel-less display among its main features. In terms of other specifications, the Nokia 9 might feature a 5.7-inch quad HD display. While the processor of the phone is not known yet, it is speculated that the Nokia 9 will come paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM with 128GB of default storage. There is a possibility of an iris scanner as well. Nokia 9 will be the successor to this year’s Nokia 8. The Nokia 7, on the other hand, is new to the rumor mill and hence not much is known about the same. But considering Nokia 7 might replace Nokia 6 from this year’s portfolio, we can expect the smartphone to be priced at under Rs 20,000. The Nokia 6 is priced at Rs 14,999. Credits: BGR
