Android 8.1 Oreo Beta for Nokia 3 Soon, Nokia 2 will directly get 8.1 Oreo

Nokia 3 may soon get the Android Oreo Beta as per a tweet from HMD CPO Juho Sarvikas. He just tweeted that Oreo Beta update for Nokia 3 is round the corner.

Juho also talked about Nokia 2 which will directly get Android 8.1, because Android 8.1 brings new hardware features targeting low-RAM devices. Nokia 5 and 6 have already received Android Oreo Beta while Nokia 8 users can either stay on Android Oreo stable update or upgrade to Android 8.1 Beta.

[EXCLUSIVE] Android 8.1 Oreo Beta now available for Nokia 8

Nokia 8 was the first HMD’s phone to start beta testing of the Oreo and now it is opening the beta test for next version of Oreo, Android 8.1.

Juho Sarvikas has just announced that the Oreo 8.1 beta is ready for Nokia 8 beta testers. Android 8.1 will bring many new features, but if you do sign in for the beta test you got to be aware that it will be buggy.

If you would like to be a beta tester, just visit Nokia Beta Labs page, and sign in with your Nokia account and IMEI number of your Nokia 8. Update is available today.

Here are some most important new features of Android 8.1:

1. Battery percentage of BT device now visible
2. Safer browsing through third party app detection of WebView attempts that can point to malicious URLs
3. Fingerprint sensor can go offline after unregistered fingerprint attempts to unlock device multiple times
4. WiFi speeds can be detected prior to connection
5. Apps can push notification chimes once per second
6. Cheeseburger arranged properly

HMD is really doing a great job and keeping its word about bringing all the latest updates faster to its phones. Nokia 8 is one of the first phones to get the 8.1 Beta update. I would love to see other Nokia phones getting the same beta test update, but hopefully that will follow soon. It took HMD a month and a half to end Beta test for the Android 8.0, so maybe we’ll see official 8.1 update available for it somewhere in March.

Nokia 6 users in India rejoice!! Android Oreo Beta is now rolling out to Nokia 6 in India after a long wait. In fact, HMD had promised a roll-out in the first week of January and not many expected it to be pushed on a Saturday.

The Android Oreo Beta update for Nokia 6 is 1799.3MB in size. You can just check for the update by going to Settings–>System–>About Phone–>System update.

New Oreo Beta build V5.160 Rollingout for Nokia 5

A new Android Oreo Beta update build is now available for Nokia 5. The build version is V5.160 and it is around 1693 MB in size. You will either be prompted to download this update or you can check by going to Settings and searching system updates and then by checking for the update.

It is yet not clear what changes the build brings but it seems to fix the multitasking bug that didn’t go away with the first Oreo Beta for Nokia 5. We will let you know if we find anything new in this Oreo Beta build apart from the bug fix.

A Moderator on Nokia Forum Stated that these following will not be Given Android 8.0 Oreo Beta via Beta Labs, Whereas they will directly Update to Android 8.0 Oreo.

The Varients of Nokia 6 which will not be receiving Android 8.0 Oreo Beta Labs are as Follows:

1. USA (All TA's)
2. China (TA-1000)
3. Taiwan (TA-1003)

These Varients will not be receiving Oreo beta update due to some Additional Requirements for technical adaptations.

Android 8.0 Oreo Beta Rolling out for Nokia 6 via Nokia Beta Labs

HMD Global started the Android Oreo Beta program, via Nokia’s Beta Labs, for their first Android smartphone, the Nokia 6. If you own a Nokia 6 and you want to help HMD finish the final version of Oreo, knowing all the risks of using a “beta” OS, you can sign up for the program via this Beta Labs

Oreo Beta is at the moment also available for Nokia 5 via Nokia Beta Labs, so if you’re interested, check this link here.

At the moment, it seems that the beta labs program isn’t available for Nokia 6 TA-1000, China specific device.

Steps For Receiving Oreo Beta:

1. Visit the Link Above and sign in using your phones Google Account.

2. Enter Your IMEI number (Settings > Status > IMEI Information > IMEI (Slot 1/Slot2)) along with your Carrier Network and Validate.

3. Accept Terms and Conditions and Request OTA, You will receive it immediately on Checking for System Update or Else wait for 12 Hours.

Few Users Also Stated that they are not receiving Oreo 8.0 Beta, Juho Sarvikas cleared that, Nokia 6 needs December Security Patch to get Oreo Beta.

As December Security Patch Update was not available for India, Juho Stated that it will rollout soon in India.

Even After December Security Patch Update Oreo Beta is not available for Indian Varient of Nokia 6. Nokia Mobile replied to a tweet that it will rollout in next week for India Users. So Stay Tuned for updates.

You need to go to Nokia Beta Labs and then sign in with your Facebook or Google account. Once signed in you need to enter your Phone’s IMEI and Operators’ name to get verified and register to Beta Labs.

Now, it will show availability of Android Oreo Beta for eligible phones and ask you to select your phone. Since it is available for only Nokia 5 as of now, you can just go ahead and get it. Once done you should be able to check for updates and get Android Oreo Beta OTA on your Nokia 5.

Nokia 3 will skip Android 7.1.2 to get Android 8.0 Oreo

Its a good news for Nokia 3 users, it will skip Android 7.1.2 Nougat update to directly update to Android Oreo. This has been revealed by HMD CPO Juho Sarvikas in reply to a tweet.

Back in the month of October, we reported via an HMD spokesperson that Android 7.1.2 update is delayed but still under testing for Nokia 3. Recently we also reported that MediaTek will now be able to provide faster OS updates because of it signing the GMS express program with Google.
