Android 9.0 Pie Official Update is now rolling out to Nokia 6.1

Nokia 6.1 or the Nokia 6 (2018) has now become HMD Global's second smartphone to receive the final Android 9.0 Pie stable build. To recall, the Nokia 7 Plus became the company's first phone to receive the Android Pie final build back in September, however, the initial rollout was plagued by certain bugs. The Finnish smartphone maker has now gone ahead and fulfilled its promise of rolling out the latest software update for Nokia 6.1 before the end of October. In accordance, we can expect the Nokia 6.1 Plus to also get the stable update in the next couple of days, considering it has already received it via Nokia Beta Labs.

Earlier this month, HMD had announced that while Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus would be receiving Android Pie stable this month itself, the Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco are expected to get it sometime next month. The company has, however, not provided any clear dates for Android Pie release on any these smartphones. Prompt updates are now emerging to be a prowess for Nokia's smartphone lineup considering the fact that all phones are based on Google's Android One programme.

With Android Pie, the Nokia 6.1 now gets features including Adaptive Battery, Slices, redesigned system navigation gestures, and many more. Nokia 6.1 users also get "exclusive" access to App Actions that offer predictions and display the expected next action in the UI.

[DOWNLOAD] Nokia Camera with Lumia’s Pro Camera Mode for the Nokia 7

The Nokia brand has been doing rather well under HMD Global. We applaud HMD Global’s commitment to the Android One program and timely security updates. The Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco are among the latest mid-range and high-end devices from HMD Global announced at Mobile World Congress 2018, and while the company’s full-throttled support of the Android One program took center stage, there was another exciting announcement for Nokia fans: the return of the Lumia Pro Camera mode in the Nokia Camera app.

The company announced that it would be bringing back the iconic Pro Camera mode that was one of the best features of the camera app from the Lumia phones. This mode is available in the Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco out of the box, but it was unclear whether or not the feature would be implemented in the camera app for older Nokia-branded devices. HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, said that the Nokia Camera’s Pro Camera mode would roll out to all devices with ZEISS optics, so some have speculated that this would include previous-generation Nokia devices. Now, we have some direct confirmation that HMD Global might very well release this feature for other Nokia phones the APK of the latest camera app from a leaked Nokia 7 OTA update has been posted online.

The leaked OTA was pulled by XDA Senior Member, a prolific leaker of firmware for Nokia devices and a finder of many prototype devices. The OTA is an unreleased build for the Chinese variant of the Nokia 7, and it includes version 8.0260.50 of the camera app with the Pro Camera mode. He has confirmed that it works on his device and has shared the APK file so that the wider community can enjoy the app.

Theoretically, it should work on any Nokia-branded device with Zeiss optics as HMD Global claimed it would. It has only been tested on the 7 so far, but it’ll likely work on the Nokia 8 as well. Download the Nokia Camera APK file below with the Pro Camera mode feature and let us know if it works on your Nokia device!

[OFFICIAL] Android Oreo 8.0 rolling out for Nokia 6 and 5

HMD’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas announced on Twitter that the rollout of official Android Oreo update for Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 has begun. Nokia Mobile also informed beta testers via email, that we also received, that the beta testing is done for now, but far from over, meaning that for the 8.0 version of Android it is done, but HMD has more versions to beta test in the future. As we already saw, they also started beta testing the 8.1 update for the Nokia 8.

Users that didn’t took part in Nokia Beta Labs, just like the users that took part, can now download the final version of Android 8.0. To do that, jump to Settings->About->System updates. Keep in mind, the update isn’t available for every Nokia 5 and 6 unit on the planet at the same time. HMD releases it in waves during a few days period because of technical limitations, and the update also needs to be approved by your operator if the device is operator-bound. So don’t panic if it isn’t available right away.

MD yesterday released the official Oreo update to Nokia 6 TA-1000 and TA-1003 users (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong), that couldn’t take part in Nokia Beta Labs. Users from the US that couldn’t take part should, starting today, also be able to download the official Oreo update, but the same principle applies – updates don’t come at the same time to everyone. Update also Brings back Dolby Surround Sound Settings for Nokia 6.
